Match Preview - Newcastle Blue Star v Jarrow Saturday 3rd July 2021
Match Preview - Newcastle Blue Star
Our first preseason friendly of the
2021/22 season see us move away from the usual higher division opponents by
facing Northern Alliance (one tier below) super power Newcastle Blue Star.
Formed in 1930 the Aristocrats are no
stranger to higher league opposition with themselves having been flying high in
the Northern Premier league only 12 years ago. Financial problems saw the club
fold in 2009 but thankfully re-emerge in 2018 when they set up home in the
Scotswood road side of the city and have grown remarkably in those few years. Ground
developments and player investment has led to increased attendances and
unrivalled ambition. As with all teams throughout this past 16 months Blue
Stars progress has been severely hindered due to the Covid outbreak with their
form of last season not reaching the level that many expected, something they
will be looking put right this term.
Blue star themselves boast a
decorated and successful history having been winners of the FA Vase back in
1978 when they beat Barton Rovers 2-1 at Wembley. They were a serial winner of
the Wearside League pre dissolution winning it 5 times with the last victory in
1985, Northern League Division 2 champions in 1986 & Division 1 champions
on one occasion in 2005. The last competition that Blue Star won however was the
Northern Premier League in 2009, but as previously stated that year they fell
into debt and made the decision to fold leaving their legacy in the Northern
League as champions forever.
No doubt Blue Star will be much
improved this season as they set their sights on a return to the Northern
League and facing a Jarrow side who have also made some squad improvements and with
lots of Northern League experience it will be a chance to test themselves.
Enjoy the game.
