Jarrow FC 0 – 4 North Shields (12-08-2020)

Northern League Friendly

12/08/2020 – 7.30pm Kick Off

Jarrow FC 0 – 4 North Shields

18’ Smith, 47’ Wilson, 56’ Cartwright, 80’ Clark

For the second year in a row Jarrow Fc entertained Division One side North Shields at Perth Green.

This was Jarrow’s first pre-season friendly.

Into the action and after 8 minutes the Shields forward Callum Smith nipped the ball away from Jarrow defender Nick Little who brought him down in the area. Smith then fired the subsequent spot kick over the bar.

After a spell of persistent pressure and a series of corners North Shields did finally take the lead when Smith managed to slot the ball home, wrong footing goalkeeper Jak Wells in the process.

The goal seemed to jolt the home team into some action and Jarrow started have more possession despite constant threats from the Shields forwards who were being ably helped by their wide men.

In the 29th minute saw Jarrow’s first shot on goal with a few minutes of nice interplay and good passing. Kai Elliot saw his left foot shot turned round the post for a corner. Kris Allen’s header from the subsequent corner just went past the far post.

Into the second half and Jarrow kept on trying to play good football but in the 47th minute Shields went 2-0 up with another neat close-range finish.

Next saw a contentious corner rifled over the head of the new Jarrow keeper and directly into the back of the net to make it 3-0 to Shields.

Jarrow kept trying to play and Johnny Hirst almost reduced the deficit with a volley from a corner but it was Shields who finished the scoring and made it 4-0 with the best goal of the game in the 80th minute.

Thoroughly enjoyable game with North Shields running out fully deserved winners and credit to Jarrow who in their first pre game kept trying to play right until the last minute. A very good run out against a top side who played some excellent stuff. Their pace and wing play was a constant threat all night. Plenty of positives for Jarrow as they look forward to entertaining Whitley Bay to Perth Green on Saturday.
