Match Preview - Crook Town

Wednesday night sees the Blue & White army travel to Crook for their third away game of the season having previously lost both games on the road at Birtley & Easington.

Crook Town find themselves 3rd top of Division Two having won 3matches, losing once and drawing their last game 2-2 after being 2 nil down at home to Billingham Synthonia before rescuing a point late on. Crook are also incidentally joint top league goal scorers with Billy Synth having scored 14 goals in just 5 games.

Crook Town have improved remarkably in the last few seasons after having stagnated at 17th & 18th finishes successively. They then managed a 9th place finish followed by ending the COVID season where they had a great season and finished 3rd. The improvement year on year seems to have followed them into this season also and will be a big test for Jarrow who have struggled for consistency despite playing some good football already this season. Jarrow will especially want to improve on last seasons result at Millfield where they went down 3-1.

Crook Town have been around for over 130 years being formed in 1889 and have won the northern on 5 occasions with the last of those triumphs coming in the 1962/63 season. Crook have also won the FA Amateur cup on 5 occasions and the Durham cup 4 times. They boast a proud FA cup record too having played in the 1st round on a few occasions and even one year having managed to make it through to the third round proper where they eventually bowed out at Philbert Street to Leicester City in 1932.

Notable player
s who have been on the Crook books at this historic club include former Newcastle United full back Frank Clark who won the European cup while playing for Nottingham Forest. Frank started his career at Crook and moved to United to start his professional career. Another famous former Crook Town player is probably the most famous substitute cricketer of all time. In 2005 Gary Pratt took the field during an Ashes Test Match and run out Australia captain Ricky Ponting in the greatest Cricket series of all time. Pratt appeared for Crook in the northern League.

It should be a great game and we look forward to seeing the Blue & White army out in force again. Enjoy the match.
