Match Preview Jarrow vs West Allotment (5-9-2020)
Match Preview
Jarrow FC v West Allotment Celtic (5/09/2020)
Saturday sees the whole of the Northern league return to competitive
action for the first time since February in some cases. The visitors to Perth
Green however have already tasted competitive action in this years FA cup with
midweek success on penalties against Northern League Division One side Whickham
at the Glebe.
The result against higher league opposition should come as
no surprise however as West Allotment were arguably the best side in last
seasons Division 2 with their final league position giving little doubt to that
argument.
This particular fixture was due to be played as a West
Allotment home game but as West have moved grounds from there home for the
previous few seasons up near the airport at Druid Park, to now share with Division
One side Newcastle Benfield at the Sam Smith ground which is a mere 5 miles
from West Allotment.
Until Covid cut the season short earlier this year West were
top of the league by 3 points and also had 2 games in hand over there nearest
rivals Redcar Athletic with West also being the team that were averaging over 3
per goals game they would’ve taken some catching. They were also predictably
the highest scorers in Division Two despite only playing 28 games, they managed
to hit a tally of bang on 100 goals.
2 of those 100 goals were scored with only 10 men against
Jarrow at Druid park in a great game earlier in the season. Both sides played
some good football despite the sending off but it was West’s clinical finishing
that secured the points on the day. It was in fact the third victory for West
Allotment in a row over Jarrow having last beaten the blue and white army at
Perth Green in a whopping 2-7 victory back in December 2018 when the rain fell
in monsoon conditions in NE32.
As far as form goes going into this game the home side have
lost 4 out of 5 friendlies all to Division One side with a sole victory coming
against the talented group of South Shields u19’s who they overcome 4-2.
West on the other hand West have beaten AFC Burradon, drawn
with Division One Newcastle Benfield and lost to Hebburn. A contrasting pre
season will no doubt play no part in the outcome of this one!
It promises to be another cracking encounter between two
sides who have both strengthened in the summer and with a 3pm kick off make
sure you are one of the 300 allowed spectators to see these two teams open their
league campaigns.
Elsewhere in the Northern there some other huge games
notably at Heaton where they entertain Carlisle City and the Hall lane derby
between Durham City & Willington. Special mention to Sunderland West End
who are going back to their rightful home for the new league campaign we hope
it goes well and we look forward to visiting later in the season.
