Match Preview - Tow Law Town

On Saturday Jarrow entertain Tow Law Town in 3pm kick off.

At the time of writing this preview before Wednesdays round of fixtures Tow Law sat in 13th place just one place below Jarrow having played the same amount of games, 6. Both sides had also won 2, lost 3 and drawn once. Remarkably both sides had scored 7 and conceded 11 so literally the only thing separating the two clubs was 10 letters!

In fact, the Lawyers are so consistently parallel with Jarrow that the two sides last season were only separated by 1 point with Tow law taking 8th and the South Tynesider’s just below them in 9th. Tow law managed to draw one more game that their blue and white counterparts.

The last time the two teams met we had a splattering of snow in Tow Law and Jarrow managed to come out on top in an extremely entertaining but tough game with the game at Perth Green ending as you would expect in a 1-1 draw.

Both sides have very tough midweek fixtures away from home with Tow Law travelling to Top of league Bedlington Terriers while Jarrow face 3rd placed Crook Town.

A bit of history now and Tow Law were founded way back in 1890 and achieved their best ever FA Cup run when they reached the 2nd round IN 1967 where they Beaton by league side Shrewsbury, a place against Arsenal in the 3rd round would’ve awaited them had they knocked out the Shrews.

The clubs greatest achievement perhaps happened in 1998 when they were runners up in the FA Vase final against Tiverton Town. At the time they were the smallest ever town to ever reach Wembley with a population of just 2,200 but they managed to take with them a whopping 4000 fans to the capital!

Tow Laws record attendance is a remarkable 5500 at home to Mansfield Town in the FA Cup 1st round game in 1967. They have won the northern league on 3 occasions with their last title winning season being in 1995.

Arguably Tow Law’s most famous player was former Newcastle United & England winger Chris Waddle who played for the Lawyers back into 1978, two years later in 1980 he was sold to United for £1000. Waddle would go on to play for Spurs & Marseille where he was on the losing side in the 1991 European Cup final.

Always a tough task against Tow Law and Saturday will be no different. Please take notice of the guidelines, wear your face coverings and enjoy the match!
