Match Preview - Redcar Athletic

Wednesday night we travel to Teesside to face Redcar Athletic in what could be the last game any of us see for at least 4 weeks.

Like Jarrow in their current guise Redcar are a relatively young club having been formed in 1993 yet the club have had incredible success in that time progressing through the Teesside league then into the Wearside League before being promoted to the Northern League for the first time in their history only 2 years ago.

In their first season in Division Two they managed an incredible 7th place finish, playing a brand of uncompromising but good football. They are an incredibly progressive club as evidenced by their rise through the leagues but also the way they do things off the field. The club house is always very welcoming and with local brewers providing a selection of fresh local beer it adds a special tinge of character when visiting.

As I said earlier, they are a progressive club and weren’t happy with their 7th place finish. Last season when COVID cut the league short they were only behind West Allotment sitting in 2nd place and only trailing the leaders by 3 points.

Redcar have had a fairly indifferent start to this season however as they look to build on last season. 4 wins from 10 games with 3 draws and 3 defeats doesn’t rule them out but they will know they can improve.

Jarrow are yet to defeat there Teesside opponents in the northern league years and have only managed one point from 3 games against them, losing both games quite convincingly away from home. There is no better time for the South Tynesiders to break that unwanted record after having dropped into the bottom 3 on Saturday after their heroic penalty win in the FA Vase.

Another tough fixture and almost certainly another great game of northern league football.

Safe journey down the A19 to all Jarrow supporters enjoy the game and respect the hosts guidelines.
