Match Preview
Jarrow v Warrington Rylands - Saturday 12th
December 2020
Warrington Rylands 1906 currently ply their trade in the
North West Counties League Premier Division. For Jarrow supporters they will
know two teams from the two split divisions below that. Steeton & Vauxhall Motors
who we have played in the last two seasons and are in the North & South
divisions respectively.
They currently sit top of that division with an impressive 4
wins from 5 and are unbeaten, along with having played two fewer games than
some of their closest rivals in the division.
The Rylands recently received a massive boost to the club in
the form of Wayne Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford who took over as Chairman and
owner. They seem to have South Shields style ideas of grandeur and almost achieved
the first phase of that ideal last season before covid cut their promotion push
into the Northern Premier short. They were sitting second with every chance of
promotion until the pandemic cancelled the season. Stretford incidentally
played for the club during the 70’s.
They seem to pose a much bigger threat than any other side
Jarrow have possibly ever played before in a competitive match and certainly
the occasion is the biggest of the new club’s history.
Jarrow go into the game on the back of defeat away at Redcar
Athletic but after much improved performances will be hoping to give a good
account of themselves yet again in this competition against higher tier opposition.
When I say higher tier, I of course mean English League tier, not this new tier
system they are using to lockdown certain areas of the country.
Warrington have already showed their cup prowess this season
losing by a single goal to 6th Tier York City in the FA Cup qualifying
round 2. York City will also be very close to the promotion places in the Conference
north, losing by the odd goal against opposition 2 league above is certainly
not a thing to be ashamed of.
At the time of writing this a letter from the FA had shone a
positive light on the re-introduction of supporters to Covid Tier 3 areas of
the country in non-league games involving Step 6 clubs. With any luck we will receive
confirmation before it’s too late so that supporters can indeed be a part of
the occasion and cheer the lads on to an unlikely but not impossible victory
against a top Warrington side.
Hopefully see you all there Saturday!
