 Match Preview Blyth Town

Saturday sees Blyth Town travel the 15 miles south to face Jarrow at Perth Green.

Blyth currently sit 3 places below their South Tyneside opponents in 15th place having won 2 of their opening Northern League games this time round. Their latest of those two victories came on Wednesday evening, as they overcame a Brandon side who had scored 6 the previous week. Blyth will be hoping they can build on that 3-2 win against a Jarrow team who themselves have enjoyed an indifferent start the new season.

Blyth are back in the Northern League after a 2 season absence after they were forced to resign from Division 1 a few games into the season after winning Division 2 at the first time of asking. At the time of their resignation they were known as Blyth Town AFC but now have gone back to the original name of Blyth Town.

On their way to winning Division 2 in 2018 Blyth thrashed Jarrow 6-1 at Perth Green during a season where they scored 95 goals in 40 games. For a club that was formed just 26 years ago in 1995 their rise through the divisions has been remarkable.

Blyth Town play their home games at the Gateway Park ground in South Newsham, Northumberland and apart from a breakaway to Ashington due to issues at the Gateway they have played at South Newsham since their inception in 1995.

Despite the young nature of the club The Braves can boast a record attendance of 1,105 against local rivals Blyth Spartans in the semi final of the Northumberland senior cup back in 2017.

In summary with the two sides coming off the back of mid week victories confidence should be high in both dressing rooms and should prove to be another interesting Northern League Division 2 fixture.
