Match Preview
Newcastle Uni vs Jarrow FC (Saturday 7th August 2021 Northern League Division 2)
On Saturday we travel 18 miles West across the country to
the town of Prudhoe for another visit to play Newcastle University FC at a
ground that they share with former Northern League side Prudhoe Town FC. Our last
visit to Kimberley Park ended in defeat as we lost 2-1 in a closely fought encounter.
Newcastle University first found themselves playing competitively
in the Northern Alliance League back in 1976 and in the 30 years that proceeded
that inception they have floated between the first and second divisions, even
sometimes dropping out of the League altogether. That potted history however
was about to change in 2018 when they managed to be promoted to the Northern
League Division 2 and all the hard work had finally paid off.
This will be Newcastle Uni’s third season in the Northern
League and will be hoping that its third time lucky so that they can actually
finish a league campaign after the previous two were cut short by well
documented reasons. When the two seasons
were ended Newcastle Uni had achieved 13th & 11th positions
respectively and therefore showing some good progression despite not fulfilling
all their fixtures. Indeed, on a chastening night back in October of last year the
Uni ran riot at Perth Green and delivered a 4-2 beating of Jarrow for the Blue
& White army to endure proving how good they can be on their day.
Saturday will no doubt prove another tough test after
Newcastle started this season well with an away win at Chester-Le-Street
scoring 4 goals in the process.
Look forward to seeing the Blue & White army at our
first League game on the road this season!
Enjoy the game
