Bedlington 0-3 Jarrow

No scorer | 54’ Hargrave, 84’, 93’ Blackburn

Jarrow came away with 3 points and as many goals from a game that was fairly evenly contested for over 80 minutes.

Jarrow could’ve taken the lead as early as 2 minutes into the game when a Kris Allen header was blocked by the defence.

Both sides were content to knock the ball around and not really take any chances going forward and that led to a midfield battle which at times didn’t look
pretty.

A near post Bedlington corner was then met and a powerfully directed header was acrobatically turned over the bar by Hubery in the Jarrow goal after 20 minutes.

Moments later and Bedlington’s lively midfielder broke through the middle of the park and could only manage to poke his shot wide.

A ball over the top towards Jason was then cleared by the keeper but only as far as Kris Allen, a first-time effort from distance bounced wide of the post and a competitive but bitty first half drew to a close with Bedlington shading possession.

In the second half Jarrow managed to close the gap between the midfield and the isolated figure of Jason Blackburn up front and for the first time in the game players were able to get ahead of the striker.

On 54 minutes as Jason chased the full back, he cleared up field and the ball was cut out yet again by Darryll Donnelly who played a clever ball into the feet of the play maker Brian Johnson who looked up and found Glen Hargrave in behind with a low sliding pass, Hargrave kept his composure and slotted home his 4th goal in as many games and The blue and white army were in front with half an hour to play.

The next 20 minutes were dominated by eventual man of the match Darryll Donnelly. A number of well-timed challenges, massive headers and well-read interceptions kept the home side away from the Jarrow goal and forced them to shoot from long range. Those interceptions were valuable for the lone striker Blackburn who was chasing down every lost cause and was able to make much more a difference in the second half due to having more players around him.

Bedlington did have a few decent chances however as the half wore on but a right footed curling shot went past the post as Jarrow managed the game extremely well, a first clean sheet of the season was obviously the order of the day.

With the game entering the last 10 minutes Donnelly & Summers were controlling the backline and Blackburn then really come to life. Tirelessly chasing defenders and lost causes all afternoon the lone striker was about to get his chance to extend the lead. Gary Shaw harassed the Terriers midfielder and poked the ball towards Blackburn who ran onto it and casually slotted past the keeper left footed from the edge of the 18-yard box. Just reward for a selfless performance up to that point. Then as the ref was just about to blow for full time Brian Johnson slid the ball through to Blackburn who still plenty to do being just inside his own half, Blackburn however beat his man and advanced down the right hand right where the keeper was waiting for him. The keeper made Jason’s mind up for him and he side footed the ball through his legs for his 9th goal of the season.

A fine but different away performance for Jarrow as they kept a clean sheet for the first time this season and with Man of the Match Darryll Donnelly commanding throughout.
