Chester-Le-Street 1-4 Jarrow FC

26-03-2022 –3pm Kick Off

Hepplewhite (55) | Hargrave (62 pen, 64) Robinson (70, 96)

Starting x11 vs Chester-Le-Street

Jarrow travelled to Moor Park for the second time this season looking to banish the memories of losing the cup tie here on penalties last year.

It was the away side who started the brighter in the County Durham sunshine with Glen Hargrave having a hattrick of chances inside the first 10 minutes. The all action forward put 2 headers from similar corners wide and also had a left footed drive that went narrowly over the bar.

On eleven minutes with Jarrow defending a corner Joe Power lofted a fantastic ball over the top of the defence where Daniel Robinson picked up the ball and advanced towards goal, the full back however did well to force him wide left and he dragged his shot agonisingly wide.

After 17 minutes there came an unfortunate incident. Joe Ames and Luke Collins both went in for the ball and as Luke got there first and cleared Joe caught his man as he tried to block the clearance. Luke having to go off with a bad looking injury. Video replays show that Joe wasn’t off the floor or with his studs raised but a foul and yellow card were justified as it was a foul. Great to hear from Luke that he was recovering well.

On the stroke of half despite Jarrow’s chances it was Chester who come closest to breaking the deadlock when a wicked cross from the right was hit first time by the striker and everyone in the ground thought it was in, everyone apart from Jimmy Lone in the Jarrow goal who managed to claw the ball away for a corner.

Just minutes later Luke Hudson advanced through the midfield with the ball and after playing a neat one two with striker Liam Mulvain and played in Joe Ames who was bundled to the floor in the box. Joe stepped up to take the kick but the keeper saved brilliantly to his right to keep the score at nowts apiece!

12 minutes into the second half and Chester found themselves in front. A free kick was swung in and headed towards goal only for it to be nodded on at point blank range where Lone in goal was unable to keep it out. The Jarrow keeper tried to react but it came at him so quickly he couldn’t stop it.

Just after the hour mark and Daniel Robinson managed to win a second penalty of the game for Jarrow. His low cross was handled by a defender, an unfortunate incident and didn’t look deliberate but a pen was given nonetheless. This time it was taken by Glen Hargrave and finally the penalty hoodoo of Chester Moor was banished. 1-1 and no more than Jarrow deserved.

Just 2 minutes later and a pinpoint Kieran Gohery free kick found the head of Glen Hargrave who rose like a salmon and nodded Jarrow in front to complete a double quick fire turnaround for the Blue & White army.

Just 6 minutes later and Jarrow had breathing space. Quite brilliant work down the right-hand side by Liam Mulvain, battling against the centre half and coming away with the ball he simply squared it to Robinson who notched his first Jarrow goal!

Chester weren’t without chances themselves and a ball over the top found the striker in space but from the left angle of the 6 yard box he shot and Jimmy Lone did well to tip it round the post. The resulting corner was a header won by Glen Hargrave, the 99th header he’d won that afternoon!

With full time looming Jack Lindsay turned nicely on the ball and it broke to Joe Ames who fired across goal where it was parried by the keeper into the path of Robinson who poked home his second of the afternoon!

A resounding win for Jarrow by the same score line as last week where once again they fell behind and mad a remarkable come back. MOTM was Luke Hudson for an incredibly mature and disciplined performance full of calmness on the ball and great decision making.
