Jarrow FC 3-0 Bedlington Terriers
28/02/2022 – 3pm Kick Off
Gary Shaw (54) Joe Ames (72) Channon
North (81 pen) | No Scorer
On a fresh but sunny Saturday
afternoon the South Tynesider’s of Jarrow completed their second league double
of the season in clinal fashion with 3 second half goals at home to Bedlington
Terriers.
It was however the visitors who
started the brighter but despite plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges
they were unable to test James Lone in the Jarrow goal who was making his full
debut for the Blue & White Army.
The first good chance of the game though
fell to Jarrow’s number 10 Channon North. A Luke Hudson though ball was sliced
by the Bedlington defender into the path of North but he lacked conviction with
the shot and the keeper gathered comfortably.
On 28 minutes the deadlock was even
closer to being broken. A lovely Crossfield ball from Joe Ames found Gary Shaw
who won a corner. The resultant corner was then whipped in by Brian Johnson
onto the head of Shaw but the ball went just narrowly over the bar.
Just 5 minutes later and the ball was
hoisted into the box by the Terriers in the direction of former Jarrow frontman
James Wilson. Lone rose highest and punched the ball clear but unfortunately
clattered unintentionally into Wilson, the ball ran free and Lone saved well
from the follow up. Wilson had to leave the field shortly after and we wish him
well and hope it’s not too serious.
As the half wore on Jarrow were
looking more dangerous as they cemented a foothold in the game, a serious of
Gary Shaw crosses being well defended and a Lewis Leech effort that was blocked
en route to goal being the pick of the chances.
Then came Bedlington’s best moment.
With only a few minutes remaining of the half the striker was played through
and cutting back managed to release his partner who managed to get his shot
away only for Lone to get down well and palm the ball away for a corner.
Into the 2nd half and the
first moment of quality came just after the restart. A foul on the edge of the
box allowed Brian Johnson the chance to shoot from a set piece, which he did
but his brilliant free kick just didn’t dip quick enough and the keeper was
relieved to see it narrowly miss his cross bar.
On 54 minutes Jarrow finally opened
their account for the afternoon. The lively Wilkinson broke into the box and
cut the ball back to the ever willing Joe Ames whose initial shot deflected
away into the path of Gary Shaw who as usual made no mistake in front of goal.
The Wingers 11th goal of the campaign.
Jarrow kept pressing after the goal
and the visitors were struggling to keep possession as they had done in the
first half. A Joe Ames snap shot narrowly missing the target and a Gary Shaw
cross being head over the top by North as Jarrow looked to double their lead.
A rare second half opportunity for
Bedlington did present itself soon after that double chance. A Shot fired
towards goal took a deflection and the follow up shot was saved well low down
by Lone again who having a good debut in goal.
With 20 minutes remaining Channon
could’ve put the game beyond the Terriers as he latched onto a Joe Ames forward
ball but the tall striker only managed to side foot the ball off the post.
Passer Joe then had a crack at the follow up but blazed it over the bar.
The very next attack brought Jarrow
there just deserts as a 30th assist of the season from Gary Shaw was
slotted home at the back post by Joe Ames to make it 2-0.
Stephen Wilkinson almost made it
three but the brilliant Harker in the Terriers goal kept him out with a brave
one on one save.
With only 8 minutes remaining man of
the match Lewis Leech showed his quality by picking out Wilkinson in the right
channel from the half way line. Wilko shimmied and with a burst of pace took it
past the defender who stuck out a leg and caught the Jarrow man. A penalty was
awarded and duly converted by top scorer Channon North!
Then followed a remarkable save as
Wilkinson once again found himself in space in behind, he squared it to Power
who hit the ball first time towards goal with Harker the Terriers keeper on the
floor. Some how he managed to stick out a left palm and stop the ball before it
crossed the line, then as Ames followed in Harker stuck out a foot flicked it
away from his left boot to stop a certain tap in. Brilliant from Harker and
North put the follow up to that chance over the bar.
Some fine performances but Lewis
Leech was man of the match impressively controlling the midfield.
