Jarrow went into the game at
Esh Winning on the back of two encouraging performances in the league but we
were ultimately unable to break down their opponents and the game was decided
by a world class strike.
Jarrow however, almost took
the lead on 9 minutes through an unlikely source. Nice football from Alex
Thompson to release Tyrie down the right-hand side won the away side a throw in
an advanced area of the pitch. Davey Smith then swung a cross to the back post
where Thompson managed to nod the ball back into the path of Alex Bone who cleverly
rolled the ball away from the defender but his shot went narrowly wide of the
right post.
On 20 minutes Dan Smith drove
forward and played in Alex Thompson who managed to slide the ball across the 6
yard box towards young winger Bradley Tyrie but thanks to great defending Tyrie
was unable to get a good connection on the ball, more good football from Jarrow.
With Jarrow dominating possession
but unable to find the killer ball Esh broke down the right and full back Taylor
picked the ball up, he cut inside and walloped a left foot strike that seemed
to get quicker the longer it was in the air. The cleanest strike that you will
ever see leaving Pickering absolutely no chance in goal.
Half an hour in and Alex Behran
stung the fingers of the Esh keeper after cutting inside and hitting a left
foot shot that was palmed away for a corner. 1-0 at half time.
2 minutes into the second half and
Pickering got down smartly to save from the Esh winger, his low shot took a
horrible bobble but Pickering managed to tip the ball onto the post and keep
the score at 1-0.
On 58 minutes superb work down the
left from Dan Smith saw him shrug off his markers and deliver a pin point cross
into the middle where Luke Hudson was waiting. Luke took a touch and side
footed the ball towards goal where inexplicably Craig Hannant pulled off a
point blank save.
With an hour gone Hubbard picked up
the ball in the Esh half and typically launched a sweet left footed ball into
the box where Channon was waiting to pounce, Channon however was unable to win
the first ball and Hannant once again got there first. The ball then bounced
and Channon hit a volley goalward, it seemed a certain goal but Hannant once
again stuck out a strong arm and pushed it wide of the Esh goal.
On 71 minutes Willian cut in from
the right and teed up McMahon who smashed a shot off the post and then cleared
to safety, a let off for Jarrow who were dominating the game.
As Jarrow tried in vain to grab the
equiliser Esh were able to catch them on the break more regularly, Pickering
making another strong save to his right from a turn and shot by the Esh Winning
forward.
The game ended with Jarrow still
trying to make the break through but it was just one of them days where the
ball wouldn’t hit the back of the net. The lads did everything but the finish
and will take confidence from a very good performance once again.
Esh Winning goal keeper Craig
Hannant being named man of the match tells you everything you need to know
about this game!
