Jarrow 4-0 Willington (3pm Kick off 26.11.22)
Northern League Division Two
JARROW 4-0 WILLINGTON
Salim (46,54) Whittle (63)
Hudson (65)
Jarrow went into this game on
the back of a 7-game unbeaten run-in league and cup after a timely upturn in
results and ultimately cruised to a comfortable victory after a dominant
performance in front of a sizeable and boisterous crowd.
After 10 minutes Jarrow’s
passing game finally clicked as neat footwork from Hudson released Salim down
the right-hand side of the area but the tricky forward could only screw his
left foot shot wide of the right-hand post. Jarrow however were now asserting
themselves on their opponents and sensing an opening.
Just three minutes later and
Salim nipped in to pinch the ball off the full backs poor pass and hit it first
time, the ball however crashed off the cross bar and was hooked to safety by
Willington.
Then just a minute after that
chance an Alex Berhan ball over the top found Salim in space who drove with
purpose into the box and went down under a challenge from a Willo defender.
Rather harshly it has to be said on the replay the referee pointed to the spot
and awarded the home side the chance for first blood. Salim who won the spot
kick stepped up to take it and saw his 2nd spot kick of the week
saved by the keeper low to his left.
On 28 minutes Salim again had
a great chance to score after jinking one way then the next leaving Willo
defenders in his wake as they went diving in to try and stop him but as he
pulled the trigger his left footed shot missed the left-hand post and the score
remained 0-0, on another day Salim would be celebrating a 28-minute hattrick!
5 minutes later and
Willington had their best chance of the half as a remarkable outside of the
foot through ball from the defender dissected the Jarrow defence but the Willo
winger could only put his shot wide, Picks not having to make the save. A let
off for Jarrow though who were dominating.
Then a minute later after
almost conceding Jarrow went on the attack again with Alex Bone receiving the
ball in an unusual advanced position. Boney then laid the ball off to Salim who
controlled and tried to slot the ball home but it was saved well by the legs of
the keeper to somehow keep the game scoreless!
With the score 0-0 Jarrow
raced out of the blocks after the restart with Evan Whittle pouncing on a loose
ball that found its way into the path of Salim who managed to slot the ball
home for his 6th goal of the season! 1-0 and no more than the blue
and white army deserved.
With 53 minutes on the clock
Jarrow doubled their lead. It began with great defensive work from Alex Berhan who
pinched the ball on the edge of his own box and drove forward with it and found
Salim on half way. Salim swivelled, Talbot picked it up and played the ball
into Hudson who unleashed Mully and the powerful striker found himself in and
one on one with the keeper, yet instead of shooting Liam unselfishly slid the
ball into the path of Salim, Mully channelling his inner Callum Wilson gave the
6 goal striker the easy chance and Abu made it 7 for the season!
Then on 63 minutes Abu Salim
turned provider as he raced down the right and squared for Mully who connected
well with the ball but the keeper again made a fantastic save. Unfortunately
for the Willington man however it fell kindly to Evan Whittle who simply kept
his shot low and stroked it in the back of the net. 3-0 and the 3 points were
safe.
2 minutes later and the game
was well and truly put to bed. An Alex Berhan ball found Hudson who calmly side
footed a neat finish past the Willo keeper whose own performance didn’t deserve
the score line.
A wonderful ball over the top
then found substitute Luke Duffy who arched his run perfectly, Duffy then
advanced towards goal and tried to meg the keeper who stood up yet again and
saved well with his legs.
Hudson then released another
substitute new signing teenager Kobe Bewicke who controlled well and struck a
right footed shot that beat the keeper but cannoned back off the post, some
debut it would’ve been for the former Whickham man!
There were no further goals
in the game and Jarrow climbed to 16th place in the table after
recording back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Man of the match
was Evan Whittle for another driving midfield performance and capping it off
with a well taken goal!
